I am scouring the internet for bits and bobs that will help me make the most of my upcoming trip to Austin and the Hill Country. I have been reading about Walter Webb's (one of the three friends) Friday Mountain Ranch -- where great-grandaddy holed up for a year to write his first book, Adventures with a Texas Naturalist. The ranch has a rich history and the Camps seemed to have changed the life of many young boys and girls.
I found a beautiful article by David Gaines in the Wall Street Journal that describes a visit Gaines took to Friday Mountain during the pandemic to reminisce about his time as a boy at the camp.
I will definitely visit Friday Mountain. Today, it is known as Barsana Hill and is owned by a Hindu Temple, Radha Madhav Dham. Lucky for me, there will be a festival while I am in town that I definitely plan to attend! I am told that the dorm building still exists and someone from the Temple will give me a tour!
Here are some links that I found interesting.
